Description
This 34mm Denver Mint medal featuring John Adams is part of the Indian Peace Medal restrike series produced during the 1970s. Adams, the second president (1797-1801), inherited the Indian Peace Medal tradition established by George Washington and continued the practice of diplomatic gift-giving to Native American leaders. The Adams presidency focused primarily on foreign affairs — particularly the Quasi-War with France — but maintained the treaty relationships with Native American nations established during the Washington administration. Original Adams Indian Peace Medals are extremely rare, as his single-term presidency and limited Indian treaty activity resulted in relatively few being produced. The Peace and Friendship reverse design continued from the Washington administration. The Denver Mint restrike provides an accessible version of one of the rarest original Peace Medal designs, essential for collectors pursuing the complete presidential set.
