(1969)-FM Silver Medal North Dakota States of the Union
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This 1969 sterling silver medal depicting North Dakota is part of the Franklin Mint's States of the Union series. North Dakota, the 39th state admitted in 1889, is known for its vast prairies, agricultural production, and the frontier heritage of the northern Great Plains. The state's relatively small population meant fewer original subscribers to the Franklin Mint program, making North Dakota medals among the scarcer individual pieces in the fifty-state set. The medal reflects the state's agricultural and frontier character. North Dakota and South Dakota were both admitted on November 2, 1889, with President Benjamin Harrison deliberately shuffling the documents so that neither state could claim priority of admission, a charming bit of historical trivia that connects these two medals in the series.
Rarity Notes
Sterling silver, Franklin Mint limited edition. Northern Plains state medals are among the scarcer issues in the series due to smaller original subscriber base.
