Description
This 1969 sterling silver medal depicting New Jersey is part of the Franklin Mint's States of the Union series. New Jersey, the third state to ratify the Constitution in 1787, played a crucial role in the American Revolution with more battles fought on its soil than in any other colony. The Garden State's location between New York and Philadelphia placed it at the crossroads of colonial America. The Franklin Mint's connection to New Jersey's neighbor Pennsylvania made this medal of particular local interest, as the mint's Wentworth facility was located just across the Delaware River from New Jersey. The States of the Union series demonstrated the Franklin Mint's ability to combine historical research, artistic design, and precision manufacturing into a cohesive collecting program that documented all fifty states.
Rarity Notes
Sterling silver, Franklin Mint limited edition. New Jersey medals are relatively common due to strong local collector base near Franklin Mint headquarters.
