(1969)-FM Silver Medal Maine States of the Union
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This 1969 sterling silver medal depicting Maine is part of the Franklin Mint's States of the Union series. Maine, the 23rd state admitted in 1820 as part of the Missouri Compromise, is known for its rugged Atlantic coastline, lobster fisheries, and vast forests. Maine's admission to the Union as a free state balanced Missouri's entry as a slave state, giving this northernmost New England state a pivotal role in antebellum American politics. The medal reflects Maine's maritime and natural heritage. The Franklin Mint produced the States of the Union series during the height of the private mint medal collecting boom, when subscription programs for themed medal sets were enormously popular with American collectors seeking both precious metal content and artistic craftsmanship in their numismatic holdings.
Rarity Notes
