Description
This 1962 silver medal at 39mm from the SH-25-3 series features the Seattle Monorail from the Century 21 Exposition. The silver composition makes this the premium version of the Monorail design. The Monorail was built by the Alweg Corporation and traveled approximately one mile in ninety seconds between downtown and the fairgrounds, demonstrating rapid transit technology that futurists predicted would transform American cities. While the nationwide monorail revolution never materialized, Seattle's system endured as a functional transit link and tourist attraction. Third-party grading services have brought standardized condition assessment to the medal market, helping establish transparent pricing and increasing collector confidence in authentication and quality evaluation. The silver version of this medal appealed to collectors who wanted a precious metal souvenir of the Monorail experience.
Rarity Notes
Silver 39mm, SH-25-3. Premium composition. Less common than the bronze Monorail medal.
