Description
Obverse Stage A: Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. The obverse of this stage is 1946-10¢ WDDO-015B. A strong Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 12:00 shows on the date, the designer’s initials, the bottom of the bust, the lower nose, nostril, IGWT, and LIBERTY. N/S die scratch on the ear NE of the earlobe. Die gouge at the upper chin area. Series of E/W die scratches above the point of the bust and above TRUST. Obverse Stage B: The obverse of this stage is 1946-10¢ WDDO-015C. Three N/S die scratches in the field west of the upper lip. N/S die scratch connecting the upper nose and the brow. Series of NNE/SSW die scratches in the BERTY area of LIBERTY. Weaker stage A markers. Reverse Stage A: SW/NE die scratches through the US and first U of PLURIBUS UNUM and the acorn. Die scratch south from the lower right N of UNUM. N/S die scratch between the top olive leaf and the A of STATES. Reverse Stage B: N/S Die scratches throughout the olive branch and at both sides of the torch holder. New scratch from the right lower leg of the N in UNUM curving toward the oak stem. Stage A scratches are very weak.
