Description
A close spread towards the center shows on some of the lower letters of USA, some of the upper letters in QUARTER DOLLAR, the E in EPU, and the ends of the branches.Die Markers: Obverse: Die clash marks can be found to the left of Washington’s eye. Several die scratches run from SW to NE in the field to the left of the eye. A die crack runs from west to east through the upper hair. A die crack runs along the base of the bust and through the designer’s initials. Reverse: LDS. A die scratch runs along the edge of the right wing below the letters of UNITED. A nearly horizontal die scratch can be found on the bottom of the 1st S in STATES. A die scratch runs through the top of the IBUS in PLURIBUS. Four nearly parallel die scratches run NW to SE near the rim at about 7:00. A die scratch runs SE from the lower right R of TRUST. Reverse: A strong die gouge extends SE from the bottom of the U in UNITED. Two short, strong die gouges extend SW from the center left 2nd S of STATES. A short die gouge extends SW from the bottom left O in OF. A heavy die scratch runs parallel to the bottom of the 1st L in DOLLAR.
