P/P EastDie Markers: Obverse: The obverse is a doubled die variety listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1942-P 5¢ Pr WDDO-005. A very close spread toward the center shows on IN GOD WE TRUST. Series of circular die scratches on Jefferson's forehead and into his hair; short die scratch SW from his eye; strike doubling on LIBERTY, the star and the date; die scratches on top of collar; die dot (two) on jawline above collar. Reverse: None significant.Submitted By: John BordnerCross References: None known Obverse Stage A: Die scratch NW from the lower area of the eye. Obverse Stage B: Stage A die markers weak but still present. Die scratch east from the top of the 4 in the date. Die scratch east from the top of the 2 in the date. Very light die crack in the hair running NW/SE and curving. Strong NE/SW die scratch at the front of the forehead. Many N/S die scratches behind the head and at the throat. Obverse Stage C: Stage B scratches abraded away. Die gouge in the field left from center of the W in WE. Reverse Stage A: E/W die scratch inside the right side dome window. Light groove in the field that follows the contour of the rim from 2 o’clock to 3 o’clock. Light groove along the lower letters of USA. Reverse Stage B: Stage A die markers very weak but still present. N/S die scratches inside the right arch. Two die scratches west from the left side of the building, one above and one below center. Many crisscrossing die scratches in the upper fields. Reverse Stage C: Scratch inside the dome window still present. All other Stage B scratches abraded away. Die scratch N by W from the right upper side of the R in AMERICA.
