1941 Token TC-93771 Zinc Coronado Cuarto Centennial
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This 1941 zinc token cataloged as TC-93771 commemorates the Coronado Cuarto Centennial, celebrating the four-hundredth anniversary of Francisco Vasquez de Coronado's 1540-1542 expedition through the American Southwest. Coronado's expedition, launched from Mexico in search of the legendary Seven Cities of Gold, explored vast territories including present-day Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Though Coronado found no golden cities, his expedition was the first European exploration of the American interior Southwest. The 1941 commemorations took place across multiple southwestern states. The zinc composition was appropriate for wartime-era token production, as strategic metals were increasingly being reserved for military use. This token documents both the historical expedition and the twentieth-century effort to commemorate Spanish colonial exploration of the Americas.
