Description
Light separation shows on the upper left wheat lines. Light extra thickness shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM and the right wheat tip. Die Markers: Obverse: Light vertical die scratches run through the upper 9 in the date. A series of deteriorated vertical die scratches show to the left of the 1 in the date. Multi-directional die scratches show below GOD in the motto. Faded horizontal die scratches run through WE in the motto. Three well separated and mostly horizontal die scratches show in Lincoln’s upper hair. A series of faded vertical die scratches show to the right of the Y in LIBERTY. An area of deterioration doubling show behind the rear truncation of Lincoln’s bust. A broken series of horizontal die gouges run from behind Lincoln’s lapel, through the last shoulder fold. Reverse: A wavy die gouge runs north from the left edge of the left wheat tip. A series of distinctive die gouges show around the E and P in E PLURIBUS. Diagonal die scratches run northeast from the L and U in PLURIBUS. Die gouges show to the right of the lower R in PLURIBUS. Diagonal die scratches run from the upper left wheat into the O in ONE. A long, curving die crack runs through the central right wheat stalk. A small die gouge runs from the outer right edge of the right wheat stalk at approximately 3 o'clock. A series of die gouges run through and below the letters U and N in UNITED. Areas of die damage show around the N in UNITED. A light diagonal die scratch shows above the N in UNITED. Old NW/SE die scratches below the 0 in the date. X-shaped die scratches in the field right of the chin. Short die scratch S from the B in LIBERTY. NW/SE scratch between the Y in LIBERTY and the hair at the back of the head. Strong E/W and NE/SW scratches through IGWT and the top of the head. N/S scratch between the R and U in TRUST. Curving NW/SE scratches on the forehead. Reverse: Stage A: Die scratch in BU in PLURIBUS. Die scratch running NE from center of R in PLURIBUS. Die scratch upper O in OF to left wheat. Die scratch upper E and upper C in AMERICA. Stage B: The Stage A die scratches in BU in PLURIBUS, O in OF, and E in AMERICA are all worn but still visible. The Stage A die scratch in R in PLURIBUS not visible. Thin N/S die crack in the left wheat. Thin NE/SW scratches between the O and N in ONE. Short NE/SW scratch in the field between the T in CENT and the right wheat. Thin E/W scratches through the MER in AMERICA. NW/SE scratch at the stem of the left wheat.
