Description

Judd-2035, Pollock-2225, is a half dollar pattern from 1925, one of the most prolific years for classic commemorative half dollars. The year 1925 saw production of commemorative half dollars for the Stone Mountain Memorial, the Lexington-Concord Sesquicentennial, the Fort Vancouver Centennial, the California Diamond Jubilee, and the Norse-American Centennial medals, in addition to the regular-issue Walking Liberty half dollar. This pattern may be connected to any of these programs or to an unadopted commemorative proposal that did not advance to production. The mid-1920s represented the peak of the classic commemorative era, when Congress was relatively generous in authorizing commemorative coinage and multiple programs were active simultaneously. This pattern provides evidence of the design evaluation process during a period of extraordinary commemorative activity at the Philadelphia Mint.

Rarity Notes

R-7. Extremely rare. The specific program connection for this pattern adds to its research interest.
