Description
=1921-S VAM-1Y Die wear lines above STATES #2= Discovered by Manuel Reyes in May 2006 1Y IV 1 · D2a (Die Wear Lines Above STATES #2) (189) Obverse IV 1– Very slightly doubled right stars and RIBUS UNUM towards rim. Reverse D2a– Raised lines from denticle edges into field above ATES O due to die wear. Single line from each denticle instead of two of VAM-1L. DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This die wear is unique and has not shown up on coins from other mints. Leroy Van Allen postulates that this unique wear could be due to San Fransisco Mint not striking up the center of coins for 21S causing more wear at the peripheral. Another of his theories asks if this could possibly be from a slightly tilted die on one of their presses. # This variety has single lines emerging from the denticles toward the field. Unlike 1921-S VAM-1L which has two lines from each denticle this different die has a single line.
