Revised 6/2011 Revised September 2023 15E (revised) IV 24 • D2l (Doubled STATES OF, Die Break S, Clashed Obv. I & UST, Rev. M) (189) Obverse IV 24 - Obverse die changed after VAM 15D. Strongly clashed dies with bold incuse I of In showing next to Liberty's neck and partial incuse ust of Trust from reverse showing in right hair vee of lower edge. ''Die Marker'' - Curved vertical polishing line inside ear. Die later used on VAM 1B Reverse D2l - Clashed die with faint left leg and space below of initial M from obverse showing above o in God. Polishing lines and die break in lower right loop of right S in STATES weak from die wear. (Formerly VAM-15A) DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This VAM, the newest discovery in the dynamic 21-S VAM-15 series, boasts the ''third'' different obverse paired with this reverse. This is a Bean Bottom S variety. Make sure to check all of the die stages of the 1921-S VAM-15 to be sure you have a correct attribution: 1921-S VAM-15A, 1921-S VAM-15B, 1921-S VAM-15C, 1921-S VAM-15D, 1921-S VAM-15F. # Obverse later used with new reverse to become 1921-S VAM-1B Thornhead series. # There is an EDS of this I clashed die that is bold and deeply clashed, and then you have the post polished version where the I clash is far less visible or missing altogether. # Clash mark in front of lips remain after clashed I is polished away.
