Description

=1921-P VAM-9 Dot Below Wing, Doubled Left Stars, Scribbling Die Scratches = Discovered by Steve Sabella, June 1979. Revised 2011 9(revised) IV5- D2c (Dot Below Wing, Doubled Left Stars, Scribbling Die Scratches) (189) Obverse IV5 - Slightly doubled/tripled left stars. Die marker -Diagonal die scratch at top right of PLURIBUS. (Previously mentioned small circular raised dot above B in PLURIBUS and below first star on right not visible to naked eye and not on EDS, eliminated.) Reverse D2c - Small circular raised dot on field between eagle's left wing and top arrowhead point. Short vertical die gouge at top of dot and slightly below dot on EDS before polishing. Fine die scratches in various directions on over polished tail feathers around eagle’s right leg, between eagle’s left wing and body and in middle of both wings. ''Die marker'' - raised dot below eagle's left wing. (Previously mentioned dot on arrow feathers and above s in Trust not visible to naked eye, eliminated.) DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Both VAM-9 & VAM-9A have significant polishing lines on the reverse. The distinction is VAM-9 has scribbles in the leg area and eagle's right wing-body junction. In the 1921-P VAM-9A die state, a die polishing event has removed these fine lines and vertical polishing lines at left. # Another variety, the 1921-P VAM-3AW2, has a similar dot that is positioned just slightly lower. 1000px
