Description

=1921-P VAM-3D Overpolished Wing= Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, May 1978. 3D IV1 -D2a (Overpolished Wing) (189) DPIS – In 1921 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This VAM has been overpolished near the eagle's body on the Eagle's left wing. The Tailfeathers near the Eagle's right leg are also overpolished w/ many fine raised polishing lines present. # This VAM may have been a precursor to the mass listing of distinct scribbling scratches varieties. There are a lot of 21-PDS varieties with overpolishing like this. Be sure to match your coin to Leroy's plate photos to make sure you have the right attribution. The 1921-P VAM-3D was not listed as a distinct scribbles variety in the 2008 guide, probably because Leroy did not examine one in person during the height of scribbles discoveries/revisions in 2007 and 2008. image:1921-P_VAM-3D_Overpolished_Wing.jpg Note to Rob: please confirm images image:1921P_V3D_wing.jpg Early state examples can have a die scratch on the 1 of the date running to the denticle under the 9. image:1921_v3d_p1.jpg The reverse can also have a tripled left star. image:1921P_V3D_STARS.jpg image:1921_3d_028.jpg image:1921_3d_029.jpg Top
