=1921-P VAM-23 Doubled Nose, Stars & E= Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, September 2001. 23 IV 17 · D1a (Doubled Nose, Stars & E) ( ? ) Obverse IV 17– Slightly doubled Liberty head nose profile and E of E PLURIBUS on right side. All left stars and 4 to 6 right stars slightly doubled to quadrupled towards rim. Slightly quintupled top of Phrygian cap. ''Die markers–'' Thin diagonal die scratch up to right from left top of serif of left upright of second U in UNUM. Two short diagonal polishing lines in field adjacent to hair edge just below bottom of Phrygian cap. Reverse D1a– Fine die scratches in various diresctions on over polished tail feathers around eagle's right leg. ''Die markers–'' Single heavy horizontal polishing line from middle of right side of lower right wreath bow ribbon to first lower wreath leaf. Roughness in that field area but little evidence of other polishing lines to right of lower right ribbon. Fine horizontal polishing line at top of third inner wing feather from bottom eagle’s left wing.
