Description
This bronze medal commemorates Woodrow Wilson's inauguration and represents another variety in the Wilson inaugural medal series. Wilson's presidency was one of the most transformative in American history — he shepherded the Federal Reserve Act, the Federal Trade Commission Act, and the Clayton Antitrust Act through Congress during his first term, then led the nation through World War I and championed the League of Nations during his second. The bronze composition was standard for presidential inaugural medals produced for public consumption. Wilson's inaugural medals are collected alongside his campaign material to form a comprehensive medallic record of one of the most consequential American presidencies. His vision of American leadership in international affairs — interventionist, idealistic, and committed to collective security — established the framework for American foreign policy that persisted through the Cold War and beyond, even as the League of Nations he championed was rejected by the Senate.
