Description
The 1914 Assay Commission medal in silver, cataloged as JK-AC-58, is the precious metal version featuring President Woodrow Wilson. Silver presentation pieces were reserved for the most distinguished participants in the annual assay proceedings, and the 1914 medal marks the beginning of Wilson's representation on the series. Wilson's presidency would span eight tumultuous years encompassing World War I, the Federal Reserve Act, women's suffrage, and Prohibition — making his Assay Commission medals a chronicle of one of the most transformative periods in American history. The silver version was produced in extremely limited quantities, as was standard practice for precious metal Assay Commission medals throughout the series. Wilson's scholarly features and rimless pince-nez glasses provided engravers with a distinctive portrait subject quite different from the robust physicality of Roosevelt or the corpulence of Taft.
Rarity Notes
JK-AC-58, silver composition. Very limited mintage for senior officials. First Wilson portrait in the series. Silver Assay Commission medals are scarce across all years.
