Description

The 1905 Assay Commission medal in silver, cataloged as JK-AC-49, features President Theodore Roosevelt on the obverse for the third consecutive year. By 1905, Roosevelt was embarking on his first full elected term and had already begun the initiatives that would reshape American governance — the Northern Securities antitrust case, the Panama Canal construction, and the mediation of the Russo-Japanese War that would earn him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906. The silver version of this medal was reserved for the most senior participants in the annual assay proceedings, continuing the tradition of producing a limited number of precious metal specimens alongside the more widely distributed bronze examples. Roosevelt's extended appearance on the Assay Commission medal series from 1903 through 1908 created a remarkable six-year medallic portrait gallery documenting the visual evolution of one of America's most dynamic presidents. The reverse carries the standard commission inscription and date.

Rarity Notes

JK-AC-49, silver (AR) composition. Very limited mintage. Part of the six-year Roosevelt sequence on Assay Commission medals (1903-1908). Silver versions are significantly scarcer than bronze.
