Description
This 1904 gold token in half dollar size commemorates the Louisiana Purchase Exposition held in St. Louis, Missouri. The 1904 World's Fair, also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, was one of the largest and most influential international exhibitions in American history, celebrating the centennial of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase from France. Gold souvenir tokens from the exposition are among the most collectible items from the fair, combining precious metal value with World's Fair provenance. The half dollar size places this among the larger souvenir tokens produced for the event. The Louisiana Purchase Exposition also generated the first official U.S. commemorative gold dollars (the Jefferson and McKinley types), making gold numismatic items from the 1904 fair particularly significant in American numismatic history.
