Description

This 1900 aluminum token was produced by Ferracute Machine Company for the Paris Exposition of 1900, one of the greatest world's fairs ever held. Ferracute, based in Bridgeton, New Jersey, manufactured the coin presses and stamping equipment used by mints and token manufacturers worldwide. Their presence at the Paris Exposition showcased American industrial machinery to an international audience. This aluminum token served as a demonstration piece, struck on Ferracute equipment at the fair to show potential customers the precision and capability of their presses. Aluminum was still a relatively novel metal in 1900, having only become commercially viable through the Hall-Heroult process developed in the 1880s. Ferracute's Paris Exposition tokens in various metals demonstrate the versatility of their equipment, making these pieces significant artifacts of both numismatic manufacturing history and international exposition culture.
