(1889) Medal Int'l Industrial Exhib. Buffalo Mechanics Institute
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This medal from circa 1889 commemorates the International Industrial Exhibition held at the Buffalo Mechanics Institute in Buffalo, New York. The Buffalo Mechanics Institute, founded in 1826, was one of the many mechanics' institutes across the United States that promoted practical education, scientific advancement, and industrial development during the nineteenth century. International industrial exhibitions were competitive showcases where manufacturers displayed their products and technologies, with medals awarded for excellence in various categories. Buffalo's strategic location on the Great Lakes and the Erie Canal made it a natural center for industrial activity and trade fairs. This medal predates the much larger Pan-American Exposition held in Buffalo in 1901, documenting the city's earlier role as a host of international exhibitions. The Buffalo Mechanics Institute helped establish the city as a hub of manufacturing innovation in western New York.
Rarity Notes
