Description
The 1887 medal GW-1009 in white metal is the less expensive version of the Constitution Centennial design, produced for broad distribution during the centennial celebrations. White metal's bright appearance made it visually appealing as a souvenir at a fraction of the cost of bronze. The Constitution Centennial generated substantial public interest, as the document was widely regarded as the foundation of American government. George Washington is the most depicted figure in American numismatics, appearing on coins, medals, tokens, and decorative pieces from the Revolutionary era through the present day, creating one of the most extensive and varied collecting areas in the field. White metal versions ensured that commemoration was accessible to all economic levels. Surviving white metal examples vary in condition due to the alloy's softness.
Rarity Notes
