Description

=1884-O VAM-29 O/O Centered High, Far Date = Discovered by Fred Miller, March 1979. 29(revised) III2 17 · C3i (O/O Centered High, Far Date) (181) Obverse III2 17 - Date set further right than normal. Ear not yet doubled at right side from die polishing. ''Die marker'' - Diagonal polishing line back of eye. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # This reverse is similar to that of 1884-O VAM-14, but is not the same. # 1884-O VAM-29, 1884-O VAM-29A, & 1884-O VAM-29B were all struck from the exact same pair of dies. It appears that this pair of dies serviced a great many planchets and the dies suffered a good deal of wear before being retired. The distinction between the 1884-O VAM-29 & 1884-O VAM-29A is, unfortunatly, going to be really grey in many cases. Obviously if your example has NO doubling in the ear - you have a 1884-O VAM-29. If your example has a doubled ear but NO die chip on the obverse star - you have a 1884-O VAM-29A. The 1884-O VAM-29B has both the ear doubling and the chipped star.
