Description
=1881-S VAM-54 Doubled 18–1= Discovered by Charles Cataldo, March 1999. Revised 2009; 2010. Prior VAM-54 reverse die break reassigned to VAM-54B. 54 (revised) III2 30 · C3y (Doubled 18–1) (185) Obverse III2 30– Doubled 18–1 in date. Both 1's slightly doubled at top right. First 8 slightly doubled at right inside of lower loop. Reverse C3y - IV S mint mark set slightly to right and re-punched with thin curved line in middle of lower loop and tiny spike at top right inside of upper loop. Partially filled loops of S mint mark. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # First 2 stars left of the date are well doubled. # PROBABLY DOES NOT EXIST. Reverse die first paired to produce the 1881-S VAM-69 and it had a trace of a crack then, so it stands to reason that there are no 1881-S VAM-54 with NO crack on the reverse.
