=1880-S VAM-55 Doubled 80, Die Chip Wreath= Discovered by Martin Field, October 1980. 55 III2 34 ∙ C3a (Doubled 80, Die Chip Wreath) (189) Obverse III2 34 – Doubled 80 in date. Second 8 doubled slightly on lower left outside of upper loop. 0 doubled at left and right outside at top & bottom. Reverse C3a – Normal die with medium IV S mint mark. Large die chip on wreath leaf opposite NI of UNITED & a smaller die chip in field next to I of UNITED as in 1880-S VAM-42. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # Same reverse as VAM 42. Obverse cataloged as different, but this may be a result of mistakenly cataloging VAM 42 as being the same obverse as VAM 31.
