Frostiness in Liberty head detail on EDS. ''Die marker'' - Nearly vertical polishing line in top of T in LIBERTY. Reverse C3am - Engraving to strengthen two leaves above ON of ONE. Repunched S mint mark shows as a curved line inside the lower loop of the S. S set slightly right w/in normal position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse:vam 142 ,vam 98EDS ,vam 98LDS ,vam 141 :Reverse: Comments: # Same obverse as 1879-S VAM-141 & 1879-S VAM-142. # I noticed this coin because of the unusual frosting in the center of the obverse die. The "frosting" appears darker. This is an overpolished obverse die and it appears the "frosting" was added to fill in missing details. Very similar in effect to 1879-S VAM-62A. # Revision in 2022 to add S/S. Mint mark was not photographed by Leroy in 2016 and may have escaped detection on a lower grade coin. # EDS exhibits DMPL/PL Reverse (normal Obverse) with a normal G of God. LDS exhibits DMPL/PL Obverse (normal Reverse) with a filled G of God and over-polished DI.
