Description

=1879-S VAM-63 Doubled Lower Hair= Discovered by John Kohut, November 2006. Revised to change reverse name, May 2024 63 III2 33 · C3bw (Doubled Lower Hair) (182) Obverse III2 33 – Slightly doubled lower hair edge and hair ends, bottom of ear and top of neck edge. 9 top loop slightly doubled at left outside. Reverse C3bw – Two outer leaves above ON of ONE re-engraved. Slight touch up work on a couple of leaves opposite U and IT of UNITED. Right wreath bough and bottoms of letters of AMERICA double toward rim. Die marker - sideways ‘V’ scratch pattern inside bow loop. Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: 150, 166, 63 Comments: # Exact same obverse die produced 1879-S VAM-63, 1879-S VAM-123, 1879-S VAM-131. # Juan has pointed out that the exact same reverse die was used to produce the 1879-S VAM-63, 1879-S VAM-150 (first use), AND the 1879-S VAM-yet unlisted. The VAM-150 has no die chip on the eagles wing next to the head/neck gap so it follows it was produced before the VAM-63 and "VAM-yet unlisted" as they do have said die chip. image:1879-S_VAM-63_Dbld_Lower_Hair.jpg Top
