Description
=1879-S VAM-37 S/S Line= Discovered by Martin Field, January 1981. Revised 2008. 37 (revised) III2 1 ∙ C3l (S/S Line) (184) Obverse III2 1 – Raised metal at top inside of 8 lower loop. Polishing lines and raised metal below 18. Reverse C3l – Medium IV S mint mark doubled with long line on right side of upper loop opening and a curved line on right side of lower loop opening. S mint mark centered and upright. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # On later die states, the polishing lines below the 8 will not be noticeable, but in the right light, a raised area will be apparent. Also, the chip seen just below the 8 at 6:30 will be present, but weak. # There is a stage of this VAM after the clashing where there was a (diligent) effort to remove the clashes & the schmutz between the date and the denticles - a really pretty cool coin! (now known as 1879-S VAM-37B) # Exact same obverse as 1879-S VAM-151/151A.
