1879-S VAM-52 PAF, Doubled 7, Engraved Wing Feather Discovered by Calvin Cherry, February 2001. This is a Reverse of '78 (PAF) coin and a Top 100* VAM variety. '''Note:''' '''1.''' In 1879 the San Francisco mint created Morgan dollars with two different reverses. Most coins were produced with a new reverse design that had a slanted arrow feather where the feathers angled toward the shaft. A smaller number were created with the older reverse die used from 1878 that has parallel arrow feathers sometimes abbreviated as PAF. These coins are also sometimes abbreviated 79-S Reverse of 78 or even 79S Rev 78. '''2.''' There are now `22 different VAMs assigned for the 1878-9-S with the Reverse of 78.
