Description
=1879-P VAM-48 Doubled 8-9, Doubled Lower Right Reverse= Discovered by John Roberts, September 2001. 48 III2 41 · C3h (Doubled 8-9, Doubled Lower Right Reverse) (180) Obverse III2 41 – 8 slightly doubled bottom loop at right outside and 9 at left outside of upper loop. Three thin vertical die scratches at back of Liberty head neck. Reverse C3h – Has hub doubling of lower right reverse same as 1878 P C3c reverse with doubling of outside edges of some leaves in lower right wreath, tops of serifs of A next to star in AMERICA, inside of AR in DOLLAR and right star towards rim. Different die than 1879-P VAM-43 with die marker of thin die scratch slightly tilted to left above junction of olive branch and arrow shafts. Same die as 1879-P VAM-63 & 1879-P VAM-107 ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # A close-up of the ear with a gouge extending from the inner ear to the outside in a SW by NE direction is a very good marker since it may stay with lesser grades, but certainly for all MS grades.
