=1878-P VAM-82 Doubled Date & Stars = Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965, Revised December 2016 - pacificwr 82 (revised) II/I 10 - B1c (Doubled Date & Stars) (180) Obverse II/I 10- Doubled LIBERTY shifted up. Doubled PLURIBUS & UNUM in Motto. Doubled 1-3 and 5,6 left stars and 1-4 right stars. Doubled 188 with 1 on right side, both 8's over center of top loop. Doubled top cotton leaf and both cotton bolls on left side. Slightly over polished Liberty head center. ''Key identifier'' - Die chip right of lower cotton leaf. B1c reverse also VAM-81. Reverse B1c- The middle leaves at the end of the olive branch are disconnected. It also has a long arrow shaft which is shared with every B1 Reverse. It has two die chips on the eagles right wing about half way down the wing which serves as a key marker. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: #The VAM-82 shows the strongest doubling of any B1 Reverse Variety with all letters shifted both to the left and upwards. # There is dramatic doubling on the first couple of stars to the right of the date. The top of the 8's are lightly doubled and the 1 is notched at the top right outside. # VAM-82 is also the only B1 reverse that has the complete nostril. # The Reverse comes in 3 distinct stages. * 1st Stage has a severly polished reverse covering the majority of the fields no obverse Star Crack * 2nd stage Obverse Star crack appears sporatic reverse polishing lines * 3rd Die chip on Phrygian cap barely visible after polishing
