=1878-P VAM-144 Doubled LIBERTY, Date & Left Stars & Ear= Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965. 144 (revised) II/I 24 B2b (Doubled LIBERTY, Date & Left Stars & Ear) (180) Obverse II/I 24- All letters slightly doubled to left in LIBERTY. Slightly doubled top right of E, R has a notch at top inside of upper loop and S doubled at bottom of upper and lower serifs in E PLURIBUS. Ear slightly doubled at right inside. 3-7 left stars doubled towards rim. Date doubled with 1 slightly doubled at top right of left bottom crossbar. First 8 and 7 doubled at top outside. Second 8 doubled at left inside of upper loop and top outside of lower loop. Nostril is weak. Two small die chips on chin on some specimens. Reverse B2b- Die over polished with areas of wing feathers and eagle's right wing missing next to leg. Partial open o in God. DPIS – In 1878 dates were part of the master die so there is no variation in position. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # The EDS of this variety is 2-sided PL.
