1878-P VAM-145 BROKEN "N and M" Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965. This coin is a Hot 50 Morgan VAM. This coin is a Top 30 1878 Variety '''145 II/I 25 - B2b (Broken N and M) (180) ''' '''Obverse II/I 25-''' Type II LIBERTY, doubled U and R in PLURIBUS. Broken bottom serif of N and M. Bottom serif of M completely gone. Doubled star 3 left and star 5 right. 1 and 7 doubled on right side with 1 slanted to left. '''Reverse B2l-''' Extensive polishing die scratches in eagle's tail feathers and in leaves to left and right of wreath bow. Two thin engraved bars with fine lines on surface between eagle's right wing and leg. Fine vertical engraving lines between eagle's right wing and body. (Same die as VAM-143) Broken 'o' of 'God' in the reverse motto. The VAM-145 is recognized by PCGS. The EDS of this variety has a PL obverse & no evidence of clashing. Later die states of this variety exhibit 2-sided double clashing. The double clashed obverse was then used for VAM 162.
