The holed variant (Pa-Ph 96) was pierced for suspension, likely intended for wear as a watch fob or pendant. Pa-Ph 99B is a variant die pairing in white metal, graded AU-58 by PCGS in auction records. White metal offered the lowest production cost per piece, making it the default choice for merchants who prioritized wide distribution over the visual appeal of costlier metals. Manufactured by Lingg & Bro. of Philadelphia, the primary source for custom merchant tokens during the 1876 Centennial celebrations. Between its May opening and November closing, the Centennial attracted nearly ten million visitors — more than the entire population of New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia combined.
