This white metal Centennial token (NY-NY 854) was issued by Traphagen, Hunter & Co., an importer and wholesale dealer in toys, fancy goods, and fireworks of New York City, at 45 Park Place. A major NYC importing house specializing in toys, novelties, and fireworks that commissioned the largest number of die varieties among New York merchants. Nine-variety series suggests substantial marketing investment in the Centennial Exposition. New York location meant tokens traveled beyond Philadelphia as portable advertisements.
