Description
John H. Server issued this copper souvenir token (Pa-Ph 752B) as advertising during the 1876 Centennial. A Philadelphia merchant who commissioned five Centennial token varieties spanning Pa-Ph 750-756, primarily in white metal with a notably scarcer Pa-Ph 756B brass variant. Pa-Ph 756B brass variant notably scarcer. Five varieties represent closely numbered die variants. Copper was a favored composition for merchants willing to invest more than the minimum white metal cost, producing tokens with a warmer color and greater durability. Lingg & Bro. produced tokens for more Centennial merchants than any other die-sinking firm in the region. The Lingg firm's comprehensive service included die cutting, metal selection, and striking, allowing merchants to order complete runs of customized tokens in their preferred compositions.
