Description

Issued by Harbach's Original Walnut Candy during the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, this brass token (Pa-Ph 930A) advertises a confectionery and stereopticon dealer operating from Philadelphia, at 807-809 Filbert Street. Theodore J. Harbach's confectionery, famous for 'Harbach's Original Walnut Candy,' also dealt in magic lanterns and stereopticons. Pa-Ph 930A brass and Pa-Ph 931 varieties feature a Liberty Bell reverse design. An NGC-graded Prooflike MS-61 specimen is recorded as 'Top Pop' (finest known) for the variety. The brass composition gave this token an attractive golden appearance, distinguishing it from the more commonly encountered white metal and copper versions of this merchant's series. Manufactured by Lingg & Bro. of Philadelphia, the primary source for custom merchant tokens during the 1876 Centennial celebrations.

Rarity Notes
