Description
This 1869 tin token, cataloged as Fuld 692A-2m, features Yankee Robinson with a full brockage reverse — a dramatic mint error where the obverse design is impressed into the reverse in incuse (sunken) form, creating a mirror image. The "m" suffix indicates tin composition, and the brockage was apparently an intentional production characteristic rather than a random error. Brockage tokens were produced by striking a planchet against a previously struck token that remained in the press, transferring its design in negative. In the context of the Robinson token series, the brockage reverse was produced deliberately as a novelty piece, adding another variety for collectors. Tin was an unusual composition for tokens, softer than copper or brass and more susceptible to bending and corrosion, making well-preserved examples particularly desirable.
Rarity Notes
Tin, Fuld 692A-2m. Full brockage reverse. Unusual composition and error type. Scarce.
