Description
This undated Civil War era token, cataloged as Fuld 692A-18d, is a copper-nickel patriotic edition piece advertising Yankee Robinson of Illinois. The copper-nickel composition, denoted by the "d" suffix, gives this variety a lighter color resembling the federal Indian Head cent, distinguishing it from the more common copper and brass versions. Yankee Robinson (Fayette Lodawick Robinson) was one of the most famous circus performers of the Civil War era, whose traveling show entertained audiences across the Midwest. His tokens were produced in numerous die combinations and multiple metal compositions, creating an extensive sub-series within the Civil War token catalog. Robinson later partnered with the Ringling Brothers in their early circus ventures, connecting this Civil War-era showman to the most famous circus dynasty in American history. The 692A die series encompasses the full range of Yankee Robinson tokens.
