Description
This bronze Sage's token from the 1860s depicts Faneuil Hall in Boston, the historic marketplace and meeting hall that earned the nickname "The Cradle of Liberty" for its role as a gathering place for revolutionary patriots including Samuel Adams. Built in 1742 and expanded in 1805 by architect Charles Bulfinch, Faneuil Hall hosted the debates and assemblies that helped spark the American Revolution, and it has continued to serve as a venue for political speech and public discourse for nearly three centuries. Sage's inclusion of this Boston landmark in his token series reflects the national scope of his historical vision, extending beyond New York to encompass the most significant buildings in American democratic history. Listed as Sage's #3, this token stands alongside Carpenters' Hall and the State House as another of the series' nationally significant architectural subjects.
