Description

This bronze Sage's token from the 1860s depicts the Crystal Palace, the magnificent iron-and-glass exhibition hall built in midtown Manhattan for the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations in 1853. Modeled after London's Crystal Palace of 1851, the New York Crystal Palace was a symbol of American industrial ambition and technological progress, showcasing inventions and manufactured goods from around the world. The building was destroyed by fire on October 5, 1858, making it one of the most dramatically lost landmarks in New York history. Sage's token preserves the memory of this vanished architectural wonder for numismatic collectors. Listed as Sage's #1 in a separate numbering from the main historical series, this token may represent a later or supplementary issue from Charles Sage's prolific token production during the Civil War era.

Rarity Notes

Bronze, Sage's #1 Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace tokens have strong architectural and exhibition history appeal.
