Description
This 1850 bronze medal, cataloged as 2RM-5, was produced for the Hawaiian Agricultural Society ā one of the earliest formal institutions of the Kingdom of Hawaii dedicated to promoting agricultural development in the islands. Agriculture was the foundation of the Hawaiian economy during the mid-nineteenth century, with sugar cane and other tropical crops driving the islands' integration into global trade networks. The Royal Hawaiian Agricultural Society was patronized by the Hawaiian monarchy and represented the collaborative efforts of native Hawaiian and foreign settlers to develop the islands' agricultural potential. This medal served as an award or recognition piece for agricultural achievement. Hawaiian medals from the Kingdom era are collected by specialists in Hawaiian numismatics, with agricultural society pieces being particularly scarce.
Rarity Notes
2RM-5, bronze. Hawaiian Agricultural Society medal. Kingdom-era Hawaiian medals are scarce and sought by Hawaiian numismatic specialists.
